Commission Reviews Key Observations and Findings from Testimony and Stakeholder Feedback

September 20, 2018

The Continuing Board Certification: Vision for the Future Commission (Commission) held its third in-person meeting on August 29–30 in Chicago. The Commission dedicated most of its time to discussing the key observations and findings resulting from the more than 21 hours of testimony provided over the past five months, as well as the results from the stakeholder surveys and feedback.

The Commission members also reviewed a summary report and specific recommendations submitted from the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Council on Medical Education. This report captured the discussions of a joint AMA/American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) conference hosted at AMA Headquarters on March 26. Representatives from specialty societies, state medical societies, accrediting organizations, the ABMS Member Boards and other national organizations interested in continuing certification gathered to discuss how continuing certification may meet the needs of diverse stakeholders as well as to develop recommendations for the Commission.

The Commission continues to weigh valuable input from many constituencies, and we want to reiterate our appreciation for your continued engagement in the Vision Initiative. We hope you will continue to follow the Commission’s progress, and encourage you to visit the website for meeting information, updates, and opportunities for your feedback and input. We also ask that you share this update with your colleagues so they too can become involved in the process.
